Pathway Builder allows you to create a Diagnostic Assessment using the Activities in your Basket.
Click on the Add a Diagnostic Assessment link above your chosen Activities when viewing the Basket.
If you do not see the option to add a Diagnostic Assessment, this is because the Activities you have chosen are not linked to any questions within the Diagnostic Question Banks held on the LMS, or because the Question Bank(s) linked to the Activities are not enabled for use in Diagnostic Assessments. Please see the guide Enable Question Banks to be used in Diagnostic Assessments to learn how to do this.
You will be presented with the following popup window:
Each option is explained in the below table:
Number of questions |
Choose the number of questions you wish to make up the Assessment. This can be set per Item or Activity:
If your Basket consists of one eLearning Activity and one Pathway which contains two eLearning Activities, this counts as two Items but three Activities for the purposes of the Assessment. The total number of questions that will make up the Assessment may vary according to whether you select Item or Activity but will be displayed as per the screenshot below. |
Set a passmark |
Choose the overall passmark you want to use for the Diagnostic Assessment using the dropdown menu. This works in conjunction with the overall number of questions displayed - in the screenshot below, it will be an Assessment with 15 questions. For example, if you choose a passmark of 70% but the Assessment only contains 5 questions, the user would actually need to score 80% (or 4 out of 5) to pass as 3 correct answers would be 60%. |
Passmark and Scores |
You can choose whether you want to display or hide the passmark and score for the User. You might want to hide a passmark and score if you are creating a gap analysis style diagnostic assessment using Likert Scale questions. These are designed for Users to rate their confidence. Our guide Introduction to a Gap Analysis Assessment explains this further. |
Order of questions |
You can choose whether the questions presented to the User will be displayed at random from any of the activities or ordered by activity, meaning in the order presented in the pathway. |
Amount of feedback given post-assessment |
You can set the amount of feedback given post-assessment. The dropdown menu for this option allows you to choose the amount of feedback a User is given after they have completed the Diagnostic Assessment:
Read our guide Set the level of feedback given post - Diagnostic Assessment for more information on each of the options. |
Click on Save.
The Diagnostic Assessment will be added above your list of Activities within the Basket.
You can now go on to add a Pathway Assessment or Save Pathway.
Clicking on Save Pathway will invite you to provide a name for the Pathway before saving and taking you to the administration area where you can further customise your pathway.
If you would like to create a Stand-alone Assessment based on the Activities contained within the Basket, please see the Create a Stand-alone Assessment guide.
