Learning Management System (LMS)
Allows people to access, manage and track their learning Activities. Administrators are then able to run Reports on Users.
Also referred to as a Catalogue of Activities. This is where off-the-shelf content is published to and made available for a User to register onto. The content in this area cannot be edited by clients.
Negative Scoring Mode
Useful for multiple choice questions to prevent Users from guessing thereby giving an inaccurate representation of a User's true knowledge. It deducts one point for each incorrect answer, which should balance out those questions that were guessed correctly. Users would be awarded zero for any answer where they selected 'Don't know'.

The 'parent' or highest level of an Organisational Structure.
The 'child' unit that sits underneath a parent Organisation. Units could include subsidiaries or departments of an Organisation.
A group of Activities packaged together as one overall Activity. For example, an Induction Pathway could include the staff handbook, a health and safety video and an Assessment.

A collection of questions that can be used in an Assessment. The Question Bank can contain more questions than a User is required to answer so that a specified number of questions can be selected at random within an Assessment. An Administrator will need to download a template in CSV format which they can add their questions to. This template ensures that the Unicorn LMS can understand the file when it is uploaded.
A rule that can be set on the system that allows Users to be automatically registered onto Activities/Pathways based on the criteria that has been applied.
Stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model and is a technical eLearning standard which determines how a piece of eLearning communicates with an LMS.
Unicorn's own learning management system (LMS). Now rebranded as Unicorn LMS.
This provides the highest level of access to the Unicorn LMS and also allows the Super Administrator to control other options not available to Administrators, such as changing Site Settings.
Enables Unicorn to automatically push out a new version of a piece of content to the Unicorn LMS for any clients who use it, thereby stopping the need for clients to download it manually. The syndication process happens overnight.
Stands for Training and Competence. This general term has specific meaning in the financial advice industry where a T&C system for regulatory compliance training is mandatory.
Tin Can API
Also referred to as xAPI. or Experience API. This is the newest eLearning standard which enables an LMS to communicate with and collect data from a wider range of technologies, both online and offline, and does much more than the previous AICC and SCORM standards.
Allows different levels of access to the system. For example, a standard User will only be able to see information relating to themselves and cannot amend anything on the site.
It is an application for sharing and conferencing that is widely used for presentations, demos, training and support.
