In eCreator, you can control which page a User navigates to next. By default, when you create your eCreator course the next page button will take the User to the next page in the course sequence. For example, pages 1, 2, 3 etc.
Branching gives you the flexibility to design courses that break the sequence, allowing learners to go in different directions. This a useful tool if you want your Users to explore different scenarios or case studies. It is also a useful tool when designing system training and recreating a step by step walk through.
You can branch in eCreator in the following ways:
- Linking an item to a page in your eCreator course
- Setting the next button destination to a page in your eCreator course
You also need to decide which page will mark the course as complete, as this might not be the last page in your eCreator course.
Use the Link tool to link to a page
Click on the item you want to link to a new page, or highlight the text you want to be clickable, and select the Link tool.
Select Page from the dropdown menu.
Choose the page destination from the options in the next dropdown menu that appears.
When you click the linked text or item when viewing your eCreator course you will be taken to the chosen page destination.
If you have an item in your page linking to another page in your eCreator course you will want to consider the next button destination.
Set the next button destination
If you have an item in your page linking to another page in your eCreator course you may want to hide the next button to stop the user from navigating this way. To do this click on the Next button destination from the eCreator page Edit menu.
Click on the dropdown menu.
Choose None from the dropdown list that appears. This will remove the next button from the page.
You can also set the next button destination to take the User to a different page in your eCreator course. Select the appropriate page in the dropdown list.
When the User clicks the next button it will take them to the chosen page destination.
Mark the course as complete when this page is reached
Click on the eCreator page edit menu and select the Mark page as complete on visit button to mark this page as the end of the course.
